Abstract
Neuromuscular blocking drugs act at the postsynaptic muscle end plate, but may have action at other sites, such as along the muscle membrane, particularly during certain conditions (stroke, burns). The interaction of muscle relaxants with extra-junctional receptors may be important as regards side effects (e.g. succinylcholine-induced hyperkalemia), which is the subject of this review.
