Abstract
Two hundred and twenty one genotypes of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) were screened for bacterial blight Xanthomonas campestris pv. vignicola (Burkholder) Dye (syn. X. vignicola) reaction and were scored on a 0–5 scale. Sixteen genotypes were found to be highly resistant and PLS65/1 was the most resistant line followed by C‐20, C‐2595, MS‐9671, Vita‐3, Tvx‐201, Tvx‐944–02E, P‐G, 779, MS‐9363, Tvx‐7–54, V‐11, PLS‐35, C‐2085, MS‐9032/2 and Tvx‐1836— 150G. Various plant characteristics like seedling vigour, plant height, plant habit, number of days to 50 % maturity were found not to be associated with disease severity of genotypes.
