Comparative studies of the morphogenesis of XJV in Vero-E6 and BHK-21 cells

Objective The morphogenesis of an XJV strain in BHK-21and Vero-E6 cells was comparatively studied to select the best host cells.Methods BHK-21 and Vero-E6 cells were infected with the XJV strain and treated according to methods for preparation and observation of specimens using transmission electron microscopy.Results The adaptation of the XJV strain differed in two kinds of cells,and BHK-21 cells were more suitable for XJV strain proliferation.The morphogenesis of the XJV strain also differed in two kinds of cells.In the BHK-21 cells,the XJV inclusions were arranged in a crystal lattice,but forms in the Vero-E6 cells were disordered spheres.The viral titer in the BHK-21 cells was higher than in the Vero-E6 cells.Conclusion BHK-21 cells are the best host cells for XJV.
