This study aimed to analyze possible correlations between the distribution of the tree species and variations in the texture and chemical fertility of the soil along a topographical gradient in a fragment of tropical semideciduous forest in the municipal district of Viçosa 20º45'S and 42º51'W), MG. Individual trees with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 4,8 cm were sampled in 20 plots with 10 x 25 m of dimensions. Samples of surface soil (0-20 cm of depth) were collected from each plot for analyses of chemical and textural properties. Through cluster analysis floristic differences were verified among the topographical positions, with formation of plot groups. A canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) indicated significant correlation among distribution of the tree species in the topographical gradient and chemical fertility and texture of the soil.
