In attempts to generate dithiones 3,4-thioxothiazolidin-5-ones 2 a - c were converted into hydrazones 4 a - c, which, however, could not be thiolyzed. Also thionation of 2 a, b did not provide 3, but resulted in reduction to thiazolidine-4-thiones 7a, b.
