Abstract
In order to reduce NOX emissions, the effect of the EGR rate on performance and emissions of the ZS195 diesel engine is studied. The experimental results show that the EGR technique can reduce the NOX emissions significantly under the high load condition but the HC,CO and smoke increase with the EGR rate's increasing. The working roughness is improved by the EGR technique, which can reduce the peak pressure and the maximum rate of pressure rise. The EGR system will result in engine output decreasing. The effect of EGR on fuel consumption is small, furthermore, the fuel economical characteristics improve under the low load condition. There is an increase in fuel consumption as well as in HC emission,CO emission and the smoke level when the EGR technique is adopted at the high load. Therefore, the EGR rate should be controlled during the high load condition.
