Mineral aggregate production in Botswana
International Journal of Mining, Reclamation and Environment(2007)
Abstract
Botswana's economic boom since independence has had a positive impact on the aggregate industry. This was conceivable as aggregate was needed to support the growing construction sector. While resource availability poses no restrictions on the growth of the industry in the short-term, other factors may affect its performance. Drought, legislation, and town and regional planning for instance, have differing implications for aggregate demand, level of interest in quarrying and location of resources relative to demand centres. The aggregate industry in Botswana is analysed in terms of resource availability, its role in the economy and shortfalls in the industry's performance
