摘要
Processes at the edges of continental shelves are important in the dynamical coupling and exchange of water and its properties between the shelf and ocean. These processes affect circulation on the shelves, availability of nutrients, distribution of sediments, and transport of natural and anthropogenic products into the deep sea. A workshop sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and the U.K. Natural Environment Research Council was held May 10–11, 1993, at the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory to improve physical understanding and modeling capability of shelfedge processes, their relationship to the ocean, and the exchange of water and its properties between the shelf edge and ocean. Emphasis was on understanding the processes.
