In the last years the use of the medium format digi tal cameras emerged as an alternative, with advantages because of their flexibility and cost ef fectiveness. Within this context, SAAPI project sta rted aiming at the development of a medium format arrangement of digital cameras. This system is composed by two Hasselblad medium format digital cameras and a Sony infrared digital camera. The Hasselblad cameras ar e mounted in a dual configuration, increasing the ter rain coverage and enabling the direct formation of a stereomodel without the mosaicking process, require d for virtual image generation. The system has also a dual frequency GPS receiver enabling automatic triggerin g and event recording, for direct georeferencing. S ome flight tests were performed in Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo, with a GSD of 14cm. This paper will pre sent the main features of the SAAPI system and the preliminary results obtained with the test flight, showing i ts effectiveness and main drawbacks.
