Resistance and virulence gene of Vibrio cholera O139 in Guangxi in 2000~2010

Objective To investigate the virulence gene and the antimicrobial susceptibility of Vibrio cholera O139 in Guangxi.Methods The method of PCR was applied to detect the virulence gene of cholera enterotoxin(ctxA) in 14 strains of Vibrio cholera O139 isolated from 2000 to 2010 in Guangxi,and the assay of K-B was applied to test the antimicrobial susceptibility of 10 kinds of antibacterial.Results Virulence gene was detected in 64.29% of strains Vibrio cholera serogroup O139,and in 100% of strains isolated from the patients.Antimicrobial susceptibility tests showed that all of the strains were susceptible to norfloxacin,aminkacin and ciprofloxacin,and were resistant to the other 7 categories of antibiotics.The strains isolated from patients and environment of the patients’families were more resistant to antibiotics than the strains isolated from the environment outside.Conclusions The conventional medications,Gentamycin,SXT,tetracycline,ampicillin,doxycycline,chloramphenicol and streptomycin,are not suitable for clinical treatment any more.It is suggested that the results of laboratory tests should be taken into account in epidemic surveillance to guide clinical treatment and disease control.
