Conductance Of Acids In Dimethyl-Sulfoxide .2. Conductance Of Some Strong Acids In Dmso At 25 Degrees C

Conductance measurements of 25°C are reported for dilute solutions of methanesulphonic, sulphuric, nitric, perchloric and trifluoromethanesulphonic acids in anhydrous DMSO. The results are analysed in terms of the Fuoss—Hsia conductance equation. The association constants decrease in the above order, indeed perchloric and trifluoromethanesulphonic acids can be treated as completely dissociated in dilute solution in DMSO. A reliable value for λ ∞ (H + ) in DMSO is also reported.
