Order–disorder transition and magnetic ordering in lithium–titanium ferrites

We have investigated the magnetic properties of Li0.5+0.5xFe2.5−1.5xTixO4 samples by means of neutron diffraction, magnetic susceptibility (DC and AC) and magnetization techniques. For the x=1.0 sample a transition from a simple collinear structure to a non-collinear model takes place at 20K. For the samples x⩾1.28 a spin-glass behaviour was observed. The roles of cation-site occupation and magnetic couplings in governing the different magnetic behaviours exhibited by the samples are discussed.
