Effect of i-adamantanamine hydrochloride on Rous sarcoma virus in vitro and in vivo

Adamantanamine hydrochloride caused a dose-related inhibition of Rous sarcoma virus infection in chick embryo cell cultures. However, with the doses used, practically no inhibition could be demonstrated on the chorioallantoic membrane of fertile chicken eggs and, in chicks, a delay in tumour appearance was observed only if adamantanamine hydrochloride was injected simultaneously with the Rous sarcoma virus into the breast muscle. The results and their possible implications are briefly discussed.
