The Sign Of The Quadrupole-Moment Of Li-8

The sign of the quadrupole moment of Li-8 was determined by a NMR-experiment to be positive in accordance with theory. The experiment utilizes thermal nuclear-spin-polarized Li-8 atoms adsorbed on an oxygen-covered W(110) surface. For this surface the sign of the electric-field gradient is known from similar experiments With Li-6 and Li-7.
