Abstract
AIM:To assess the effect of interventional procedure on residual shunt after surgical repair of ventricular septal defect.METHODS:Eighteen patients[aged 3-46 years, mean age(14 ±11) years]were included in the study.Diameter of the residual shunt was 3-8 mm[mean(4.2 ± 1.5) mm].Residual shunts were closed by building orbit.Contrast examinations of the left ventricle were performed to evaluate the immediate results 15 min after the closure and echocardiography was performed 1 day and 3 months after the closure to decide whether there was residual.RESULT:Except for two cases(one case with too large of a diameter of residual shunt and one case with difficulty of building orbit),the interventional procedure was successful in the other 16 cases.CONCLUSIONS:Transcatheter closure of postoperative septal residual is safe and effective.
