Abstract
Based on the ISCCP D2 cloud data, precipitation data from 116 stations in Inner Mongolia and NCEP assimilation data, the spatial and temporal distributions of cloud liquid water content and precipitation in both the north hemisphere and Inner Mongolia region were investigated. The results obtained from the monthly distribution of precipitable water and precipitation in Inner Mongolia show that the rich precipitable water and the ample precipitation always appear from May to September. In a twenty-year cycle, the total precipitable water shows an increase with fluctuation. From 1984 to 1998,the precipitation increased gradually, and then decreased from 1998 to 2001. From 2001, it exhibited an increasing trend.During the past 24 years, the precipitation clearly decreased in eastern and increased in central and western Inner Mongolia, especially in some central cities such as Wulanchabu,Huhhot and Baotou.
