Physical self-perceptions are essential constituents in the makeup of self-esteem. Young women and girls often report low levels of self-esteem. Participation in sports or physical activity on a regular basis is associated with increases in self-esteem among females. PURPOSE: To determine the relationship between sport involvement and physical self-perception among young adult women. METHODS: The Physical Self-Perception Profile (PSPP) and the Perceived Importance Profile (PIP) were completed by 97 university females (50 athletes, 47 non-athletes).
