The relief of ureteral obstruction by internal ureteral stent in patients with gynecologic malignancy

Silicone-rubber ureteral catheters were successfully placed by cystoscopy or by ureterotomy in 10 of 15 patients with ureteral obstruction by gynecologic malignancy. Nephrostomy drainage was avoided in most and comfortable life was prolonged for those whose tumors were resistant to therapy. The catheter was also useful in preserving renal function while various modes of therapy were administered. Morbidity is low, and the catheter can easily be removed when indicated.
