Changes of serum levels of Interleukin-4 and Interferon gamma in patients with Helicobacter pylori-associated gastric cancer

Objective To observe the changes of serum levels of Interleukin-4(IL-4) and Interferon gamma(IFN-γ) in patients with Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)-associated gastric cancer to explore the change of TH1/TH2 immunologic response. Method Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was employed to determine the levels of serum IL-4 and IFN-γ in 7 cases of gastric cancer without H.pylori infection and 13 cases of gastric cancer with H.pylori infection. Result No significant differences between the levels of serum IL-4 and IFN-γ were found between the two groups(P=0.897). Conclusion H.pylori infection may not affect the TH1/TH2 immunologic response in patients with gastric cancer.
