Oxidations of sulfur rich heterocycles – new S-oxides of the parent 1,2,4-trithiolane and its tetramethyl derivative: synthesis and structural investigations

1,2,4-Trithiolane S-oxides 2, 3, trans-7, cis-8, trans-8 and 9 have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Moreover, the molecular structure of compounds 3, trans-7, trans-8 and 9 have been established by X-ray structure analysis. Ab initio calculations have been used to obtain the optimized geometries and the vibrational wavenumbers of these compounds.
