Making use of cinrad wsr-98d for probing into summer convective cloud characteristics

Making use of CINRAD WSR-98D, a Doppler weather radar in Nanchang, and a data base of 36 convective cloud weather processes continuously observed for the summer of 2002 and 2003, representative cases and radar return echoes for different levels and times were selected to analyze convective cloud structural characteristics in Jiangxi. As shown in the result of convective cloud return echoes, the area for basic reflectivity is 11.18×109m2, the area for combined reflectivity is 19.85×109m2, the mean top height is 10.71 km, the maximum top height is 15.11 km, and the area for top height is 7.71×109m2. The analysis result can provide scientific basis for rainfall enhancement operations in Jiangxi.
