摘要
Ovarian cancer is the fourth leading cause of death among neoplastic diseases in women. In spite of the constant improvement in surgical, chemotherapeutic and immunological techniques, the five-year survival rate has not changed substantially over the past 30 years. We have created a sonographic scoring system, called the Pelvic Masses Score (PMS), which could help to distinguish between malignant and benignant pelvic masses in diagnoses. The three most commonly used and validated indexes - the Sassone score, the ovarian tumour index (OTI), and the risk of malignancy ultrasound 3 Index (RMI 3)—were applied to a population of 152 women with adnexal masses. We have therefore developed a new scoring system, the PMS, which takes into account the ultrasound morphological pattern, the Doppler flussimetry of the pelvic mass and the CA125 serum level and menopausal status of the patient. In the second part of our work, we have applied this new scoring system to a new population of 73 women with pelvic masses to evaluate its sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values The statistical analysis of the data obtained from the new scoring system reveals that the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV) are 88%, 43%, 87% and 75% respectively.
