Abstract
Objective: To investigate the time course and distribution of chondroitin sulphate proteoglycans(CSPGs) and glial fib-rillary acidic protein(GFAP).Methods:A total of 25 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control and injured group. At 0h,72h,1w,4w after compression injuries of the spinal cord, the expression of CSPGs and GFAP were detected by double-stained immunofluores-cence analysis. Results: The expression of both CSPGs and GFAP within the injury area of the spinal cord were increased, but the time course of expression of the two molecules was different. The expression of the CSPGs was increased immediately, and all along, after the injury, culminated at 1w,and spatially concentrated at the site of primary injury gradually. The immunoreaction of the GFAP was in-creased after injury, too, but concentrated at the margin of the injury site at last. One week after the compression injury of the spinal cord, there was little astrocyte at the site of primary injury, but were plenty of CSPGs accumulated. Conclusion: It may prevent the accumula-tion of CSGs in the injury area after spinal cord compression to inhibit the CSGs secreting from adtrocyte early after injury, which further attenuate the inhibitory effect of CSGs on the regeneration of axon after spinal cord injury.
