A Study on Reflectivity Correction of Phased Array Weather Radar

Phased array weather radar is an important developing direction of the atmosphere detection,which can improve the time and spatial resolution of the weather radar.After analyzed the scanning characteristic of the phased array weather radar and discussed the influence of these characteristics on meteorology echo reflectivity,a method of correction to the phased array weather radar reflectivity is proposed.Using the echo data detected by the phased array weather radar and the data of the traditional weather radar at almost the same time as the criterion,a compare is made to the phased array weather radar echo data which is before reflectivity correction and after reflectivity correction.The result shows that the echo reflectivity after correction is more coincident with the reflectivity detected by the traditional weather radar.The correction method proposed here can effectually improve the precision of the echo reflectivity detected by the phased array weather radar.
