Analysis of the situation of the unqualified medical laboratory specimen.

Objective To investigate the characteristics and causes of the unqualified medical laboratory specimens,and take preventive measures to ensure the quality of examination.Method The characteristics and causes distribution(2008-2009) of the unqualified specimens of the Fangcun Branch Inspection Department Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were studied retrospectively.Results There are 1 945 unqualified specimens,the overall unqualified rate of specimens is 0.65%.Of all the unqualified samples,the unqualified rate of the blood specimens is 1.94% and of the bacteria samples is 1.98%,which are the highest of all the unqualified specimens.Clotting,bar-coding errors,and hemolysis are the main causes of the unqualified anticoagulant specimens.Conclusions Clinical staff's nonstandardized operation of collecting specimen is the root cause of the unqualified specimens.Therefore it is important to enforce the monitoring of specimen collection and handeling process.
