A Method for Calculating Ozone Depth Using the Solar Ultraviolet Fraunhofer Spectrum

A technique has been developed for calculating the ozone depth of the atmosphere from measurements of solar u.v. irradiance at turning points in the Fraunhofer spectrum. The technique has been tested using measurements taken with a single-pass u.v. spectroradiometer with a holographic grating and solar-blind photomultiplier. Ozone depths determined with the technique agree closely with standard Dobson spectrometer results.
