摘要
Esophageal resections are usually performed for malignomas of the esophagus, exceptionally for benign diseases. Among the indications for resection the adenocarcinoma of the distal esophagus, especially the Barrett's carcinoma, has an increasing incidence. Several techniques for resection are available. The most common reconstruction in Europe is the stomach tube with a cervical or intrathoracic anastomosis with the esophageal stump, In general, stapling sutures and handsewn anastomoses are performed. Comparative studies between hand suture and stapling technique did not show any important differences, therefore, they can be used at the surgeon's preference. Beside the general condition and the presence of risk factors of the patient, the experience of the surgeon is important factor in the prevention of complications.
