Identifying Obscure Periodic Patterns in Genomic DNA Sequence

Genomic DNA sequence is very abundant in periodic patterns, which play important biological roles,such as gene expression, genome structural stabilization, and recombination. Tandem repeat is a typeof periodic patterns and concerns several genetic diseases.Tandem repeat nder (TRF) [1] is one of the widely used programs to nd tandem repeats withouta priori knowledge. Statistical models are usedto identify an explicit tandem repeat in TRF. However,no other types of periodic patterns are recognized by TRF.Inthis study, we presenta novel auto-correlation-based modelto identify obscureperiodicpatterns,and apply it to eukaryotic chromosomes.
