Research on the breeding of plum blossom in Nanjing.

The plum has a very long history of cultivation in Nanjing.By using the method of mutant selection,seedling selection and virus mutation,the Plum Study Group of Zhongshan Mausoleum Authority had selected 58 excellent new varieties which had been adopted by the International Registration with the direction of Mr.Chen Junyu and Mr.Chu Mengyuan since the later 1980s.This paper described a part of the main ornamental characteristics of these varieties which through the International Registration in the past two years.Based on these studies,we have looked forward to the future development direction of Plum Breeding.We hope this study can guide the breeding of new varieties of plum by both research and production simultaneously,and also provide reference for the development of Plum cultivation in Nanjing.
