Overexpression of the apoptosis inhibitors BCL2, BCLXL and XIAP in tumor cells is often associated with resistance to chemotherapy. Since these genes are frequently upregulated in bladder cancer (BCa) their targeted inhibition represents a promising treatment option for BCa.
