Abstract
The reaction between aldehyde-containing macromolecules of modified dextran and amine-containing macromolecules of the globular protein lysozyme in aqueous solutions is studied by a polarized luminscence method, which provides a means of evaluating the degree of binding of each luminescently labelled component. The effects of the reactant ratio and the reaction conditions on the reaction rate are demonstrated, and the composition of the soluble conjugate of maximum protein content is determined. It is shown that the conjugate has a compact structure in aqueous solution with protein globules close to it.
