We investigated the effects of replacing third-/fourth-generation cephalosporins with piperacillin–tazobactam on the rate of acquisition of extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli by patients hospitalized in a Department of Respiratory Medicine.
