Aqueous humor penetration of moxifloxacin 0.5% ophthalmic solution and a new ophthalmic solution formulation of moxifloxacin 0.5% in cataract surgery patients

Conclusions The new ophthalmic formulation of moxifloxacin 0.5% with xanthan gum yielded approximately 2-fold greater aqueous humor bioavailability than the current formulation as well as greater C max :MIC 50 ratios for ocular pathogens and includes protection against the resistant microbes Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis . These results suggest improved prophylaxis against pathogens that lead to endophthalmitis.
