Abstract
Based on the measured cooling curves of steel probes quenched in various quenchants, axisymmetric finite-difference model with phase transformation was developed using inverse heat conduction method.By the model and designed FORTRAN program, surface heat transfer coefficients were calculated. From the results,it is known that phase transformation has an effect on the calculation, and the results calculated by taking account of phase transformation are proved to be reasonable. It is also found that surface heat transfer coefficients depend on both quenchant and material of steel probe. The coefficients for the same probe during quenching vary with quenchant kind, and the coefficients for probes of different materials quenched in the same quenchant are also different.
