Abstract
Determination of the resection line (surgical upper margin) in gastric cancer patients before gastrectomy is important to ensure curative resection. However, accurate identification of the tumor extension by conventional white light endoscopy is sometimes difficult in undifferentiated gastric malignancies. Autofluorescence imaging videoendoscopy (AFI) is a promising new technique that can differentiate neoplastic from non-neoplastic tissue in vivo, and may enable us to determine the true extension of undifferentiated type gastric neoplasms which are not apparent by white light endoscopy.
