Synthesis and Thermal Performance of Gd10-x(SiO4)(6)O3-1.5x Ceramics

Silicate oxyapatite RE9.33(SiO4)(6)O-2 Gd10-x(SiO4)(6)O3-1.5x (x=0, 1, 1.33) ceramics were synthesized by solid state reaction. The pre-sintered Gd10-x(SiO4)(6)O3-1.5x powders and sintered Gd10-x(SiO4)(6)O3-1.5x bulks were characterized by XRD. The sound speed and Young's modulus were investigated. Besides, the thermal diffusivity was measured by laser flash method, and then the thermal conductivity was obtained. Results indicate that the Gd10-x(SiO4)(6)O3-1.5x ceramics have low sound speed, low Young's modulus, and low thermal conductivity; furthermore, the thermal conductivity of Gd-9(SiO4)(6)O-1.5 is the lowest.
