This paper outlines a procedure for converting the USGS GEODATA Land Use and Land Cover files into polygon and raster formats that are compatible with several widely used software systems. Examples are included for SAS/GRAPHÆ, GIMMS and MAP. There is also a discussion of an approach to handling the grid format on IBM-PCs and color frame buffer systems.
