558: Human atrial natriuretic peptide ameliorates warm ischemia-reperfusion injury of the lung
JOURNAL OF HEART AND LUNG TRANSPLANTATION(2007)
Abstract
Purpose: Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), a hormone synthesized by cardiac atria, possesses potent diuretic and natriuretic properties and a relaxant action on smooth muscle. These effects have been ascribed to the activation of guanylate cyclase receptors, increasing tissue cGMP levels. We hypothesized that carperitide, synthetic ANP, administered on reperfusion after warm ischemia would protect reperfused lungs.
