Abstract The action of sulfur monochloride on aryl tert-butyl disulfides in tetrahydrofuran led directly to benzopentathiepins in good yields. The reaction was applied to the synthesis of two benzopentathiepins 10a and 10b, varacin 1 and isolissoclinotoxin A 2a derivatives.
