It is shown by means of analytical electron microscopy that platinum dispersions on TiO2 (anatase) films form a Pt3Ti alloy under thermal treatment at 823 K in hydrogen. The formation of the Pt3Ti intermetallic compound is accompanied by the local reduction of the TiO2 support to titanium suboxides (Ti4O7).
