Prompt Neutrons from Fission

Experimental data for the velocity (or energy) and angular distributions of prompt neutrons from fission have been reanalysed within the framework of the equilibrium statistical model. It is concluded that the deviation from the hypothesis of neutron emission from fully accelerated fragments to a large extent is due to neutron evaporation in the acccleration period of the fragments. No convincing evidence for scission neutrons has been found.
