The review panel had some reservations about these guidelines, and similar comments became apparent also in the open presentation at the Florence Congress. Section 1.10 is felt to have reviewed the literature in such a way as to produce a controversial conclusion that is not well supproted by data or by usual clinical practice in most centres. It is proposed that the conclusions and recommendations of this section are amended to avoid recommending prolonged starvation
