Abstract
Osteomas are benign osteogenic tumors that arise from the proliferation of cancellous or compact bone. Osteomas are usually found in craniofacial bones. Surgery is indicated only when the lesions exhibit cosmetic changes, become symptomatic, or grow actively. The usefulness of Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy for osteoma has been reported previously. Herein, we report a 32-year-old woman with osteoma of the right temporal bone. Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy showed a typical uptake pattern at the tumor site, but no abnormal uptake was observed using F-18 FDG PET. Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy is more useful for localizing other sites and measuring activity than F-18 FDG PET.
