Auditing of anesthesia performance has been advocated for many years; however, only now is it beginning to come into its own as a valuable method for improving patient care, resource management, resident education, and the personal performance of physicians. Although the best method for auditing is not yet clear, certain principles are common in the better ones. Recent articles show how data derived through auditing can be used effectively, particularly to improve the outcomes of anesthetic care.
