Abstract
At present, two double-blind controlled studies, one with flupenthixol (Montgomery et al. 1977) and one with mianserin (Montgomery et al. 1983) versus placebo in patients with repeated suicide attempts and Recurrent Brief Depression (RBD), even though RBD was not formally diagnosed, showed that flupenthixol but not manserin appears to be effective in suicidal behavior. In the present literature attempts of a psychopharmacological treatment with fluoxetine in RBD are discussed contradictory (Amore et al. 1998; Montgomery et al. 1994), although serotonergic activity is thought to be prominently involved especially in cases of probable suicide attempts (Weiler et al. 1994, Kasper et al. 1994).
