Genesis of urinary tract infection in male children.
Indian journal of pediatrics(1977)
Abstract
Summary The present study was conducted on boys and girls in the age group of 1–12 years suffering from urinary tract infection. The
pathogens causing urinary infection in boys differed significantly from those in girls. Proteus sp. were isolated from 41.5%
of cases among boys and from 7.4% of cases in girls. The study of the preputial flora of boys showed that 15 out of 36 boys
having urinary infection were harbouring Gram negative organisms whereas in the control group only 6 out of 40 yielded growth
of Gram negative organisms from the preputial swab. This suggested the possibility that the focus of origin of urinary infection
in male children may be in the preputial sac.
