Study of Pure and Yb~(3+)-doped GdAl_3(BO_3)_4 Crystal

Pure and Yb3+-doped GdAl3(BO3)4(hereafter GAB)crystals with the dimensions up to 20 mm were grown from the K2Mo3O10-B2O3 solvent by the top seeded solution growth(TSSG)method.The coefficients of thermal expansion along(100)and(001)directions of GAB crystal were measured.And the transparent spectral region was given,among which the effective nonlinear optical coefficient and phase matching angle were investigated.It was found that the phase match would be successfully carried out in the whole transparent region.For Yb3+-doped GAB crystal,the polarized Absorption and emission spetra were recorded at room temperature.Based on these,the Absorption and emission cross sections,laser parameters(βmin,Isat,Imin,σg)were determined.2.1 W laser output was obtained with the wavelength of 1046 nm and the slope efficiency as high as 58%.
