Hot isostatic pressing of glass-sealed BeO

摘要
Hot isostatic pressing of BeO was performed using a glass as the pressure-transmitting medium in the range 1000°C to 1400°C and at 2000 kg/cm2. Specimens with theoretical density were obtained at relatively low temperature and for shorter pressing time. Their electron fractographs showed intergranular characteristics. Microstructure of the specimens indicated that grains were uniformly distributed and that abnormal grain growth was not recognized, but took place only at higher temperatures under pressure.
