摘要
Salivary glands fromTheileria parva infectedRhipicephalus appendiculatus were stained by the Feulgen technique and examined as whole glands. Of 87 glan ds examined 38 were found to contain large Feulgen positive bodies. No such bodies were found in the glands of non-infected controls. One of the glands from an infected tick was stained by the Feulgen technique and its partner was sectioned and stained with haematoxylin-eosin. The numbers and morphology of the Feulgen positive bodies in this gland closely resembled those of the conventionally stained parasites in its partner. The Feulgen staining technique appears, therefore, to provide a rapid and simple method of detectingT. parva infection in tick salivary glands.
