An ecological study of the Swanpool, Falmouth *1II. Hydrography and its relation to animal distributions

Swanpool at Falmouth, Cornwall has a mean depth of 1.6 m and contains about 80 000 m3 of brackish water. It is estimated that in one year 20 to 30 times this volume of fresh water and about 2 pool-volumes of sea water enter the pool. The fresh-water flow is continuous, while the sea water enters (through the culvert by which brackish water normally flows out of the pool) only near high water of spring tides.
